OPEN LITHUANIA EXHIBITION
2019

The idea of the project: to create 10 original street art works on the walls of abandoned buildings in small Lithuanian capitals of culture 2019 (Veisiejai, Žiežmariai, Mosėdis, Liudvinavas, Adomynė, Baisogala, Vadžgirys, Kuliai, Nemėžis, Dusetos) based on the uniqueness of Lithuanian towns, which reflect the spirit of this place, the history of the people who lived there would form the town’s identity. A tourist map / guide for street art is also created. Small Capitals of Culture are chosen because of the current lack of modern culture in the periphery of Lithuania, while young people either return to their native cities and find no active life, or look for opportunities in larger cities. Residents of other age groups are also open to renovation of aesthetic common spaces. This project would contribute to the dissemination of art and to the activation of small towns, the promotion of internal and external tourism.

Objectives: to form a modern and creative image of Lithuania, using the historical features and features of the towns, represented in the form of street art; to promote inner tourism, during which everyone would have the opportunity to see or re-discover unique places of Lithuania while traveling around Lithuania, get acquainted with the unique history of the place, through culture – by looking at art works to deepen historical knowledge, to promote patriotism and love for their country in the original way; Encourage cooperation by bringing together and involving urban communities and volunteer teams by organizing small city festivals on the occasion of the presentation of works.

The project will be implemented in 2019 spring and summer

CALL FOR WALLS
2018-2019

Do you know what your place or building is famous for? If so, send a border and, if you have one, suggest an idea to the experienced artist Linas Kaziulionis. Two building walls / locations will be selected. Together with the winners and an engaging community, we will draw sketches by artist Linas Kaziulionis, which will be transformed free of charge into professional and meaningful works of art in the public sphere. Linas Kaziulionis will implement two projects selected with the public.

We strive to make abandoned or unattractive buildings, awaken by the artist, revitalize cities and towns and involve the community in creative action.

All of this is free, because we create Lithuania in person.

_____________

The Call For Walls contest was won by Visaginas social care home and project in Šeškinė.

Thank you very much to everyone involved!
A number of applications have been received from different parts of the country: from Kaunas to Nida or Šiauliai.

Winning projects with a strong social dimension:
The idea of a social care home in Visaginas is to paint a wall-fence together with the people living there. The home care workers have no doubt that this project will be especially memorable for those who are living in destiny and lonely people.

The second winning project is the electricity transformer station in Vilnius, Šeškinė district. The authors of the idea articulate the outstanding history and famous residents of Šeškinė as theater directors Rimas Tuminas, Eimuntas Nekrošius, ballet dancer John Katakin and others, although they are well aware that this area is now only interesting for the inhabitants themselves, but they, and especially children, deserve everyday life a variation with a positive artwork on the electrical transformer wall.
Thanks again to everyone involved and wish to keep in mind the great ideas!
